He emphasized that the practice places a heavy burden on public health systems, affects women’s physical and mental well-being, and leads to long-term economic losses for families and nations.

Dr. Sherif called for urgent and coordinated action, stressing the importance of awareness, education, and medical training to protect girls and women and to reduce the human and financial cost of this harmful practice.
